"The situation on the Greek Island has shown the dangerous gaping migration hole on Europe's South East flank. This mirrors the tens of thousands entering illegally through the Eastern flank of Hungary and Slovenia.
"Turkey’s failure to monitor visa applicants from outside the country have created a security risk that threatens to become a nightmare in Europe's cities. Huge numbers of migrants can take a plane to Istanbul, buy a visa and then attempt to enter Europe from Greece or the North.
"The result is misery for the small communities of islanders from Kos to Lesbos dependant on tourism and now facing the costs of dealing with tens of thousands of migrants. EU federalists who want to see Turkey join the EU and create a ‘nation’ from the channel to the Urals are clearly blind to the security implications this will cause. International pressure must be swift, immediate and direct on Turkey to stop their lax policies and prevent this flow of people."
