“The 1.3 million people entering the UK over the past 10 years from eastern Europe under our EU ‘free movement of people’ obligations, signed up to by successive Tory and Labour governments, is so staggering that to properly understand the volume, it helps to equate the number to the populations of British cities. So, this is the equivalent of our public services having to manage to provide for an additional city with a population of Britain second largest, Birmingham. Or the populations of the cities of Manchester, Cardiff and Southampton combined. Not only was this number of immigrants not planned for, the government is still not planning public service resources for the increasing number of arrivals from these countries in the future.
"UKIP has never blamed people from wanting to migrate to the UK. We have always argued that the UK government's lackadaisical approach and the EU's policy of open borders are at fault. The scale of migration from Eastern Europe since 2004 has been too much in such a short space of time and has eroded social cohesion in many towns and cities across the UK. Mass immigration at this level is not sustainable. I fear that such a high levels of migration from parts of Eastern Europe will cause a 'brain drain' in these countries as their people migrate for work abroad due to the EU's scandalous migration policy. In reality, the EU’s crazy policy is bad for both for the UK and the countries from which these people migrate.”
